I have been brought up in a family who practices Catholicism. I was baptized as a baby, made my First Communion, and when I was 15 going on 16 I made my final step with my Confirmation. As I took being a Catholic into my own hands as an adult, there have been struggles. As a teenager and young adult, I will admit to being selfish. I would rather be doing anything else over going to church. I was stuck in the "rut" of thinking I didn't need to go to church in order to believe in God. I soon came to realize that going to church means so much more. I am in a place where others share a belief that reflects our way of life, I receive the body of Christ, and listen to homilies that teach me to do better. While I am attending NAU, I have found a home at the Newman Center. It is great to see others my age making a point to take an hour out of their busy week to practice their faith. Father Matt is the regular priest at the Newman Center and I have never been let down by his homilies. He makes me THINK and sometimes question my own motives for how I live my life, is that the best I can do? Father Matt is passionate about what he does and it shows through is teachings.
My home away from home
I have been blessed with the most adorable little nephew to ever walk this earth. On top of that, I have been chosen to be his God-Mamma. On December 4th, I will be by Jaxson's side as he takes his first step into his lifelong journey through faith. It is going to be a memorable day full of celebrating Jaxson and his parent's choice for him to be a part of the Catholic religion. My job is to be a role model for Jaxson as he grows in his faith for the Lord and eventually makes the ultimate choice of Confirmation. I am so honored to be trusted with this responsibility and I will not let my little man down :-)
